Opening, Closing, and Using Cybercab Doors and Trunk

How to open and close Cybercab's butterfly doors from the outside, inside, and at trip end - plus trunk access, capacity, and cargo tips.

Cybercab’s butterfly doors swing outward and upward, so they operate differently from a conventional car door. In most cases the doors handle themselves — opening automatically when you arrive and closing once your trip ends. The sections below explain every method available to you, whether you’re boarding, exiting, or stowing luggage in the rear trunk.

Do not open a door before Cybercab has come to a complete stop. Except in a genuine emergency, always wait until the vehicle is fully parked before touching any door control.

Doors #

Boarding from Outside #

When Cybercab detects your phone at the pickup location, the door nearest to you opens automatically — no action required.

If the door does not open automatically, press the door button on the window sill (the B-pillar quarter applique). The door swings outward and upward.

Sit in either seat, place any carry-on items, and buckle your seat belt before tapping Start Ride on the touchscreen.

Closing from Outside #

Press the door button on the window sill to close the door. The door will not close if an obstruction is detected.

If a door senses an obstruction and stops, clear the obstacle, then press the door button again to resume closing.

Do not pull or force a door open. The butterfly mechanism swings outward and upward; forcing it can damage the door struts or trim.

Opening from Inside #

You have two options for opening a door from inside the cabin: touch the Open Door icon in the bottom corner of the touchscreen corresponding to your door (the recommended method), or gently lift the door lever to open the door.

At the end of your trip, touch the Open icon in the middle of the touchscreen to release the door and exit.

Pulling the door lever fully and firmly upward activates the emergency mechanical release. This ends the trip immediately and causes Cybercab to stop in the lane as soon as safely possible. Reserve this action for situations where Cybercab has lost power or you are in immediate danger. Improper use may shatter windows or damage trim.

Closing from Inside #

Touch the Close Door icon in the bottom corner of the touchscreen, or touch the Close icon in the middle of the touchscreen.

Doors close automatically when your trip ends via the Robotaxi app.

Obstructed Doors #

If a door detects an obstruction and will not close: remove any bags, clothing, or body parts from the door’s path.

Touch and hold “Hold to Open” on the touchscreen to override the obstruction detection and move the door.

To stop a door that is already in motion, press or touch the Open or Close button a second time.

Keep hands, feet, and backpack straps clear of the door frame whenever a door is closing. Do not push, pull, or force the door — let the motor do the work.

When possible, open and close doors via the touchscreen or the Robotaxi app rather than the physical lever. This ensures the motor-assisted mechanism operates safely and avoids accidental activation of the emergency release.

Trunk #

Cybercab has no front trunk — the hood cannot be opened. All storage is in the rear trunk.

You can only access the trunk while Cybercab is in Park, indicated by the hazard lights flashing. This happens automatically at pickup and drop-off. Do not attempt to open the trunk while the vehicle is in motion.

Opening and Closing the Trunk #

Use any of the following methods to open or close the trunk: touch Open/Close Trunk on the touchscreen, use the trunk control in the Robotaxi app, or press the switch located under the trunk’s exterior handle.

Trunk Capacity #

The trunk holds a maximum weight of 220 lbs (100 kg) and a volume of 20.2 cu ft (572 L).

What Fits #

You can fit 2 full-size checked bags plus 2 carry-on bags in the trunk.

Alternatively, it fits 2 carry-on bags plus 2 golf bags.

The trunk also accommodates 1 large folded stroller, or 1 small folded wheelchair.

Retrieve all belongings from the trunk before you leave the vicinity of Cybercab. Once you complete your trip in the app and the doors close, the vehicle will depart. Lost items can be reported in the Robotaxi app under Ride History, but are only stored for a maximum of 10 days.
