General #
Where is Cybercab available? #
Cybercab is currently available in Austin, Texas. Open the Robotaxi app to see the current service area boundary and operating hours. Tesla is actively expanding to additional cities — check the app or tesla.com/support/robotaxi for the latest updates.
What hours does Robotaxi operate? #
Operating hours vary by location. Open the Robotaxi app to see the current hours for your area. Hours may expand as the service grows.
How much does a Cybercab ride cost? #
Robotaxi uses dynamic pricing — your exact fare is calculated and displayed in the app before you confirm the ride, so there are no surprises. In Austin, rides average approximately $2.93 per mile, with shorter trips starting around $4.73. Pricing factors in a base rate, any applicable wait time, and current demand. As more Cybercabs join the fleet, wait times and prices are expected to decrease.
What kind of vehicle will I ride in? #
You may be matched with a Cybercab — a purpose-built autonomous electric two-seater with butterfly doors, no steering wheel, and no pedals — or a Model Y-based Robotaxi, depending on availability in your area. Both are fully autonomous.
Can I choose between Cybercab and Model Y Robotaxi? #
No. The Robotaxi service automatically assigns the closest available vehicle. You cannot select a specific vehicle type when booking.
Can I book a ride without a mobile device? #
Not at this time. The Robotaxi app (available on iOS and Android) is required to book, manage, and pay for rides. You also need your phone present at pickup — Cybercab detects your phone to open the door automatically.
How do I cancel a ride? #
Cancel through the Robotaxi app at any time before the vehicle arrives at your pickup location. Keep in mind that Cybercab waits up to 7 minutes at the pickup point — if you haven’t arrived by then, the ride may be automatically canceled.
Features & Comfort #
What features are available during my ride? #
The Cybercab touchscreen and Robotaxi app give you access to climate control (adjust cabin temperature, fan speed, and individual vents), seat adjustment (recline each backrest independently and move both seats forward/backward together), entertainment (music, podcasts, arcade games, and media via the App Launcher), window controls (press the switches under the touchscreen inward to lower, pull to raise), and destination editing (change your drop-off at any time via the Robotaxi app).
Your passenger profile saves climate and seat preferences so your settings carry over between rides automatically.
Can I order a ride for someone else? #
No. The ride requester’s phone is required for Cybercab to detect your arrival and open the door automatically at pickup. The person who books the ride must be the person who boards the vehicle.
Are children allowed? #
Minors under 13 are not allowed in Cybercab at this time. Cybercab has no LATCH or ISOFIX anchor system for car seats. Riders between 13 and 17 may use a seat-belt-retained booster seat and must comply with all Rider Rules, including remaining buckled for the entire trip.
Are pets allowed? #
Check the Robotaxi app’s Terms of Service and Rider Rules for the current pet policy before bringing an animal. Service animal accommodations are covered in Tesla’s Service Animal Policy at tesla.com/support/robotaxi.
Can I reroute during my ride? #
Yes. To change your destination mid-ride, open the Robotaxi app, tap your current destination, select Edit, and enter a new destination. Note that additional stops are not supported — you can only change the final destination, not add waypoints along the route.
Does Robotaxi offer wheelchair-accessible vehicles? #
Wheelchair-accessible vehicles (WAVs) are not available at this time. The rear trunk can accommodate a small, folded wheelchair (up to 220 lbs / 100 kg, 20.2 cu ft). The step-in height is 16.3 in (414 mm). Check the Robotaxi app for any updates to accessibility offerings.
Safety & Support #
What if I need to stop during my ride? #
You have three ways to request an immediate pull-over: touch Pull Over on the Cybercab touchscreen, press the STOP button located between the two dome lights in the cabin, or use the Pull Over option in the Robotaxi app.
Cybercab will stop on the side of the road as soon as safely possible. On highways, this may take longer. Use pull-over and emergency controls only when necessary. The emergency mechanical door release (pulling the door lever firmly and completely upward) ends your trip immediately and may cause Cybercab to stop in the travel lane. Use it only if you are in immediate danger.
I left something in the vehicle — how do I get it back? #
Report a lost item as soon as possible through the Robotaxi app: open the app and go to Menu → Ride History, select the ride where you left your item, and tap Start Lost Item Report and follow the prompts.
Tesla stores lost items for up to 10 days. Act quickly to maximize your chances of recovery.
What if I need to speak with someone during my ride? #
Touch Contact Support on the Cybercab touchscreen to initiate a support call through the cabin’s built-in microphone and speakers. You can also call Robotaxi Support at (877) 798-3752. An orange indicator on the touchscreen menu bar lights up when the cabin microphone is active during a support call.
In an emergency, call 911 first — then contact Robotaxi Support.
